Reason to Remember

Reason to Remember is a modernization of the Irish fairytale "The Wooing of Etain." A young woman discovers that the dreams she's had all her life about the fairytale are memories of a past life. Now she must work with her long-lost love to break the curse that separated them 3000 years ago before an old enemy succeeds in destroying her forever.

Power and position are everything in the Sidhe court.  Fuamnach is furious when her husband, Midir, the King of the Sidhe, replaces her with his new bride, Etain. In a fit of rage, she curses Etain, changing her into a butterfly and sending a wind after her that will force her to fly unceasingly for the next thousand years. Not satisfied, she binds the curse to Etain causing it to follow her through 26 mortal lifetimes, keeping happiness and peace just out of reach.  Grief-stricken and furious, but restrained from killing her by his father, Midir banishes Fuamnach from Faerie.

Three thousand years later, the curse has been fulfilled time and time again.  Midir finds Etain in each new life, only to have her torn away from him once more.  Keelia Gallagher has dreamed of Midir and Etain all her life, but she convinced herself they were only dreams brought on by her vivid imagination after hearing the story as a child.  The summer she turns 27, she travels to Ireland to visit her grandmother, leaving her fiancé, Eric, back home in New York.

In Ireland, the dreams of Midir and Etain grow stronger and darker, until one day in the village, she looks up and sees Midir standing over her.  Her logical mind can't accept what she sees, but her heart knows the truth.  Wanting nothing but to be with her, Midir courts her, trying to awaken her memories of him outside of her dreams.

As Keelia and Midir spend more time together, her dreams become more vivid, tracing through their time together.  Convinced they must be something more than dreams, and haunted by the familiarity she feels in his presence, Keelia follows Midir into Faerie.  With a passionate kiss, he awakens every lifetime in which they have loved in a wave of memory.

But Fuamnach has become aware of Keelia's presence and sets events in motion to make sure that this time, the 27th time, Etain's soul is destroyed forever.  She slips into Eric's dreams and awakens his memories of his past life as Etain's second husband, Eochaid.  Working on his insecurities about his relationship with Keelia, she begins to stoke the fire of his jealousy into a seething rage

While Midir and Keelia struggle to find a way to break the curse, Fuamnach works to tear them apart, launching attacks on Keelia with the help of her allies.  When her grandmother is attacked, Keelia becomes determined to take the fight to Fuamnach and end it once and for all.

Fuamnach, however, is not ready for it to end just yet, preferring to play with her prey as long as possible.  She still holds Eric as her secret weapon, one Keelia will never see coming.  As Keelia's anger and desperation grow, she slides further away from breaking Fuamnach's power and closer to falling into the trap laid for her 3000 years before.
